Captain's Log records where you fished, what you hauled and what you landed — on a boat with no signal, on a screen you can read in the sun, with your positions kept to yourself.
Why it exists
Most fishing software is built by people who have never tried to enter a buoy number with cold hands while the boat is rolling. Captain's Log is built to the daily notes of a working harvester in LFA 25 — every screen has been through a season, and the awkward parts got fixed because somebody complained about them that evening.
That is also why it is deliberately narrow. It logs fishing. It does not try to be a marketplace, a chat app or a fish-finder.

Buoy by buoy, with the position taken where you actually hauled it — not where you remembered to press save.

What it keeps
The log
Log each string as you haul it — buoy numbers, counts, and the notes you would otherwise scribble on a scrap of paper.
The chart
Waypoints and buoy strings on a marine chart, with your boat drawn on it in real time.
The trip
Sailing and landing times, ports, landed weight, buyer and hail references — recorded as the trip happens, then closed once.
The fleet
Share marks and live vessel positions with buddies or a fleet you trust.
The paperwork
Keep registrations, licences and safety documents in the app and open them on deck without a signal.
The books
Track landings, expenses and crew shares across the season, so settling up at the end is arithmetic you can check.
The constraint everything else follows from
Plenty of apps say they work offline and mean they show you a cached page. Captain's Log writes every entry to a database on the device first. The network is an afterthought that catches up later.
It is written to the device immediately and shown as saved, because it is.
Nothing changes. Every screen keeps working, including the chart.
The queue drains in the background, oldest first, without you doing anything.
The newer edit wins and the other is kept, so two devices on one boat cannot quietly erase each other.
In development
We are working toward qualification with Fisheries and Oceans Canada as a third-party electronic logbook provider, so the trip you already recorded can be submitted as your logbook return instead of being copied out a second time onto paper.
Nothing is ever sent to DFO without you seeing exactly what is being submitted and confirming it. This feature is not yet qualified, and this page will say so until it is.
